Hyperium was the power source of Coverton's space ship. When Team Monster attempted to free President Hathaway from the ship, the hyperium core exploded. The energy from the core not only restored Susan's powers, but allowed her to shift from her giant size to her original one on demand. This ruined Covernton's private plan to remove the greatest threat to his people's plan for invasion.
