Originally, Ed Wood's campy Plan 9 from Outer Space was to feature actress Maila Nurmi as her classic horror hostess character from the self-titled series, The Vampira Show. However, Nurmi told Boxoffice that Wood's dialogue was so awful (it is universally regarded as one of the worst films of all time), she sought and received permission to perform her entire role in a mute and spellbound manner she referred to as "Maila in an Alpha state," thus creating the all-new, unnamed character simply credited as "Vampire Girl."
