Tech Pattas was a Greek-descended Barrayaran who worked in the motor pool on Kyril Island. Along with his friend Corporal Olney, he played a nasty prank on then-newly-minted Ensign Miles Vorkosigan that nearly got him killed. While the base commander General Metzov was uninterested in the details, Lieutenant Bonn figured out that Miles had been set up and made sure that Pattas and Olney got to share in his punishment. Later, during the Kyril Island Incident, Pattas was one of the techs left to freeze on the snow; he was one of only a few who did not shrink away when Miles joined them.
