Initially established as a subdivision of the Hun Khaganate, the Eastern Khanate soon broke from the Western Khanate (which was the formal seat of the supreme ruler of both Khanates, established by Attila in Rome) and formed a de facto nation of its own. The Eastern Khanate outlived the fall of its western counterpart in 540 by almost half a millennium, being defeated by Catholic Europe and the Roman settlers of Quaon in 1018.
