1920-2008 Labour Party politician in West Ham. A councillor on West Ham County Borough Council from the 1950s until its abolition in 1965, sitting on the education committee. He went on to be a member of the successor Newham London Borough Council and was Mayor of Newham 1967-68. He was also elected to represent Newham on the Greater London Council (GLC) from 1964 -73; and Newham North West from 1973 until the GLC's abolition in 1986.
