William Lewis Prowse (1907-75). Born in Islington he was the son of Alfred Ernest Prowse, a hackney cab driver and his wife Susan Amelia née Fosker. A Labour Party politician: an alderman on Finsbury Borough Council, he served as Mayor of Finsbury in 1939-40. He also sat a member of the London County Council representing Shoreditch and Finsbury 1949-52.
