Howard Stark is the head of Stark International and has a son named Tony. He was presumably killed by the Mandarin. That accident pushed Tony into becoming Iron Man. Howard's business partner Obadiah Stane took over the company until Tony became old enough to take over. However, the Mandarin actually captured Howard in hopes that they could find the Makluan Rings.
