James Baskett (February 16, 1904 - July 9, 1948) was an American actor known for his performances in Song of the South, where he portrayed Uncle Remus and provided the voice of Brer Fox, and Brer Rabbit in its final segment. He was one of the first African-Americans to be hired by Walt Disney himself, which is a debunker of the rumors that Walt was racist. He also voiced the Fat Crow from Dumbo. He was given an Academy Honorary Award for his performance in that film, making him the first male performer of African descent to receive an Academy Award. He was also Bill Cobbs's cousin.
