[Source] A point-defense cannon was a kind of starship emplacement, typically laser cannons, blaster cannons or light ion cannons, that were used to defend large capital starships against smaller starfighters. Point-defense cannons were also used to defend against missiles. Vindicator-class heavy cruiser were armed with point-defense laser cannons and point-defense light ion cannons.
