Shinjo steeds were to normal horses as horses were to dogs, but Utaku steeds were stronger and faster still. Shinjo horses were rarely exported to anyone other than the Unicorn families, and those steeds that found their way to other clans were of lesser quality or gelded so that they could not be bred.
