A beam gem was a hard to come by crystal that was usually found in navigation computer. They came in at least two sizes, designated size 4 and 5. Wedging three into the barrel of a blaster and altering the weapon's galven pattern allowed an individual to create a crude beam splitter. Beam gems are also used in the construction of a lightsaber focusing lens.
