John Clarricoats (1898-1969) was an amateur radio operator (call-sign G6CL) and local politician active in the Southgate area. Born in Lewisham, he moved to the rapidly developing north London suburb of Southgate. Clarricoats became the general secretary of the Radio Society of Great Britain, and was the author of a number of books on the subject. He was awarded the OBE in the 1955 New Years Honours.
