Theodore was born in 1858 to Martha and Theodore Sr, a wealthy industrialist. Theodore had a good upbringing in suburban New York. He suffered heavily from asthma attacks and spent much of his time in bed. Roosevelt used this time to study and write. Thanks to his own determination his health began to improve and in 1875 he was able to get a scholarship to go to Harvard Law School.
