Oliveira was a member of the Brazilia crew, and one of a pair who detected the presence of the Caleuche. Thinking he would acquire vast amounts of additional resources for his ship, Oliveira and his partner, Lago, clandestinely took a shuttle there. After sending his friend Lago to find enough fuel for a return trip, and ultimately to his death, Oliveira committed suicide rather than return to his ship to be killed for taking the shuttle without permission. Sky Haussmann's similarly minded expedition discovered Oliveira's corpse, his stolen shuttle, and his final logs.
