Pittsfield was the largest city and county seat of Berkshire County, Massachusetts. A portion of the mid-20th century novel Dangerous Grounds was set in this city. This city had a courthouse, a drugstore, a hospital, and a jail. Doctor John Rawley had met Serena Wilson in the hospital. Later, there was a trial in which the innocence or guilt of Serena Wilson was decided by a jury of her peers. She been implicated in the murder of her husband.
