Vanilla was a type of food flavoring. The Inquisitor Jerec gave his apprentice Sariss a sweet made from vanilla-flavored syrup as a gift while the pair were discussing the planet Ruusan. Zwil, another flavoring substance, tasted like a combination of vanilla and cinnamon. Members of the sentient Kitonak species extruded a substance from their skin which smelt of vanilla and the Killik species bonding pheromone also shared the smell.
