A rattan rod is a common choice for inflicting pain, in disciplinary, legal punishment, such as caning people, a form of punishment still used in many countries such as Malaysia, Vietnam, Singapore, and Brunei. Nicolae Carpathia had ordered Commander Tenzin to punish Ipswich, one of his officers in the underground bunker in Solomon's Stables, by beating him to death with a rattan rod for his impropriety toward his supreme leader. Commander Tenzin was also told to punish Suhail Akbar without killing him, then Nicolae changed his mind and decided Akbar would die.
