The greater crested gundark was a particularly fierce variety of the non-sentient gundark species that was believed to have been extinct centuries before the Cold War between the Galactic Republic and the Sith Empire. The Trandoshan hunter Qyzen Fess disproved that belief when he tracked down and killed a greater crested gundark sometime around the Cold War, an act that earned him significant fame.
