Amber is fossilized tree resin, usually of a yellow, orange or brown color and of a transparent, cloudy or solid appearance. It has been valued as jewelry from ever since 10,000 BCE, and was often used as a grave good — excavations of the Syrian city of Qatna revealed a tomb inhabited by a lion carved from amber.
