Koras was born on Shili to a common Togruta family in one of the cities in Shili. Shortly after, he was taken to the Jedi Academy on Bakura. He was close friends with Rui Jormar, a human padawan, who would later become Koras' apprentice. And Asil Leikane, who would later become his master.
