Eight or higher was a rule that Lily and Marshall set for Ted, Barney and Robin. The rule said that Ted, Barney and Robin couldn't tell them anything about their lives unless it was worth at least eighth on a scale from 1-10, this was because Marvin was born and Marshall and Lily didn't have much time for them. They started the rule in The Magician's Code - Part Two, they revoke the rule in Who Wants to Be a Godparent? when Lily and Marshall realizes that they haven't spent much time with the gang in a long time. The scale has experienced two tens during it's existence: Barney's engagement to Quinn and Victoria showing up to her meeting with Ted in a wedding dress.
