A Blood Quill is a writing instrument enchanted to use the writer's blood for ink. Writing with a Blood Quill causes a stinging sensation in the opposite hand of the writer, and the words written with the Quill are cut into the back of the free hand, from where, presumably, the Quill draws the blood that it uses as ink. During the 1995-1996 schoolyear at the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in Scotland, Dolores Umbridge used such a quill to punish Harry Potter. In October 2008, Alexandra Quick used a Blood Quill to sign the secrecy contract of the Mors Mortis Society.
