Cosmic Star is an indie-experimental Santa Cruz band comprised of Unico (Niki Selken) (vox/autoharp) and Captian Sparkle (Gabriel Gilder) (vox/drum machine/melodica/Casio/Effectron/treatments); both play keytar and xylophone. They formed in the fall of 2004. Jason Martin was involved in conceptual formation of the band. Niki does choreography and staging for the band's live performances. Niki and Gabriel came to Santa Cruz originally because of UCSC.
