According to Max and Ben, Los Soledad was originally a military base back in the 1950s. In the events of the episode, it was revealed to have been built on that site for the convenience of the large subterranean deposits of crystal quartz, for the convenience of a military time-travel experiment, codenamed "Project Paradox". This experiment was made possible by its project's head scientist's theory after having discovered unique properties in crystal quartz, which would act as an access way to past and future events.
