The Mustang received a substantial increase in overall size along with an overhaul in exterior trim. Besides expanding the interior space, this also allowed the installation of a big-block 390 cu in (6.4L) V8 which was previously used in the Ford Thunderbird. The car had a wide array of options which included a Straight-6 engine, 3-speed automatic transmission, and a limited-slip differential. The Mustang Fastback is well known for its appearance in the 1969 film Bullitt starring Steve McQueen.
