The Quakers of the University of Pennsylvania and the Crimson of Harvard University finished the season unbeaten, though each had been tied once during the season. The Tigers of Louisiana State University (LSU) went unbeaten and untied against a weaker opposition. Both teams were named national champions retroactively by various organizations. Both Pennsylvania and Harvard claim a national championship for this season; Harvard had the stronger strength-of-schedule.
