The Minister of Defense was the Solarian League's cabinet member in charge of the military. Unlike other branches his deputy was the Chief of Naval Operations, not a Permanent Undersecretary. The office's power and command authority was sharply circumscribed, and de facto person in charge was the Chief of Naval Operations. (SI2)
