Lava is an element in Earth Editor. It acts almost the same as magma in Powder Game. When lava touches water (or salt water), it creates wall, cloud, and even Sand for some reason. Seed and wood will burn into fire, while sand makes more lava. Unlike the salt in Powder Game, the salt in Earth Editor is immune against lava.
