King Lawrence IX was the head of the House of Thomas and the reigning monarch of the Kingdom of Meyers. His family was reduced to the status of a figurehead dynasty when the Solarian League Office of Frontier Security took control of the Meyers System a few generations before his birth, so he concentrated on philanthropic pursuits, and gave support to public education out of the royal family's private coffers.
