An IRC channel is a chatroom hosted on sockets and servers. There are hundreds of channels that are hosted on freenode, which is what this wiki's channels are hosted on, that discuss many different things. In a channel, there may be operators, that have the ability to kick and ban users from the channel and change the topic of the channel. Other users will be able to chat as usual.
