Simon Staines was an embedded reporter attached to Major Shepherd's convoy in Kajaki Province, Afghanistan during Day 9. After Derrick Yates's drone attack on Shepherd's vehicle, Simon obtained footage of the aftermath of the explosion and disseminated to the Internet. Chell saw the footage on her computer, and alerted Pete, Stosh and Chloe O'Brian about it. They realized that the drone used the same system that Yates was hacking into, and that he may have been responsible. Sky News also aired Staines' footage as part of their news story.
