The Kingdom of Galicia emerged after the collapse of the European Empire in 1844 but throughout its existence it suffered from ethnic tensions between Poles and Ukrainians. This erupted into the Polish-Galician War from 1852-1854. In the end Galicia lost the western half of its territories to Poland and ultimately was conquered by Russia in 1871.
