The rank of sublieutenant is approximately equivalent to Starfleet lieutenant junior grade. The Tal Shiar equivalent is second lieutenant. In the Romulan Ground Forces, sublieutenant was above sergeant and below lieutenant. Sublieutenants usually commanded ter'vals.
