Saugeen Shores was created through amalgamation in 2001. Three fire departments were merged to create the fire service for the new municipality: * Port Elgin Fire Department * Saugeen Township Fire Department * Southampton Fire Department After amalgamation, the Saugeen Township fire station was closed and their trucks distributed among the other halls.
