The Committee of Eight was a junta of German leaders who assumed control of their country after the death of Führer-Chancellor Heinrich Himmler in 1965. The Committee was comprised of representatives of the Wehrmacht, the SS, and the Nazi Party. Its principal task was to select Himmler's successor, and they chose Ernst Kaltenbrunner for the position.
