The hero is about to do something awesome, something that they will always be remembered for. This is the defining moment for the character, the moment that will forever leave an impression in the readers/viewers/listeners/whatever. The music is swelling, the tension is rising, and it appears to the viewer that awesomeness is about to grace their eyes. He trips over a rock during his charge and impales himself. She doesn't quite manage to break through the skylight. He gets a bullet to the brain before he can do anything. She gets curbstomped. Examples of Negated Moment of Awesome include:
