1 September 1840 – 9 January 1924. Member of the London School Board, elected for Tower Hamlets 1870 1873 1876 1879 1882 1885. British conservationist and liberal politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1885 to 1886. partner in the London brewing firm of Truman, Hanbury, & Co. He and his brother Thomas, played a major part in saving Epping Forest and Hainault Forests for public use. He also bought Hatfield Forest for the National Trust from his deathbed.
