Opened by the Eastern Counties Railway, it was absorbed into the Great Eastern Railway, becoming part of the London and North Eastern Railway during the Grouping of 1923. The station then passed on to the Eastern Region of British Railways on nationalisation in 1948. The station was served by Network SouthEast when Sectorisation was introduced in the 1980s, until the Privatisation of British Railways.
