BOFD is a banking term meaning "Bank Of First Deposit" that is the first financial institution where a person deposits or cashes a check. If the BOFD is not the same bank on which the check is drawn, the deposited or cashed check or a substitute check is presented by the BOFD to a second bank called the "paying bank".
