Ceretic is Hengist's interpreter for speaking to those of the British tongue. Ceretic interprets for Vortigern at the banquet where Vortigern first meets Hengist’s daughter. The name Ceretic is given by the Historia Brittonum. Geoffrey of Monmouth mentions “the interpreter” but provides no name. Wace calls him Redic, the Breton, and says that this man was the first to become skilled in the Saxon tongue. Lawman calls him Keredic.
