Robert J. Godfrey was the third Presiding Bishop of the Anglican Orthodox Church, Metropolitan Archbishop of the Orthodox Anglican Communion, and the President of Cranmer Seminary. Significantly, during his tenure as bishop Godfrey legally changed the name of the jurisdiction, retaining the original incorporation. Weekly celebration of Holy Communion became permissible for the jurisdiction under Bishop Godfrey. Previously parishes and priests were disciplined for having Holy Communion more than once a month. The changes instituted by Bishop Godfrey were opposed by some members of the clergy who preferred the low church Anglicanism of James Parker Dees, which led to the creation of the Orthodox Anglican Church.
