The Yukikaze had been part of the Japanese Naval Force protecting Hawaii. After the 2nd Battle of the North Pacific ended in success for the US Navy, the Yukikaze helped rescues survivors from sunken ships, and returned to harbor. Minoru Genda had been rescued by the destroyer after the Akagi was sunk.
