The XM55-B 20mm Shrapnel Rifle (rare?) is much like the standard XM55 rifle. The only difference is that the XM55-B shrapnel rifle does physical splash damage, which means even if your bullets do not directly hit your enemy it will do some damage. This weapon makes for an adequate end game rifle if upgraded and equipped with appropriate mods (3 mod slots only?). Useful for crowd control.
