The Tantalus mask was a piece of First Federation technology which was pillaged in the Mirror Universe by Emperor Tiberius from Balok. This advanced form of cloak was indetectable by gravimetric distortions or radiation making it far superior to the Romulan Cloaking device. Only a Tantalus homing beacon could detect it.
