It was originally named Yaerberron until 7 ABY, wherein it was given its current name in honor of deceased Presav Lyr Dunwell. Indeed, the city can thank Dunwell for its prosperity, as it has benefited the most from his economic programs during the Renaissance of Innovation. The city has given its name to a Shearwater-class frigate, the CMS Dunwelton (CFG-45).
