The National Party is the successor of various right-wing which collapsed during the Great Depression and subsequent disastrous election results, its predecessor the Liberal Conservative Party was made up of middle class voters however, as the depression deepened many turned to the Labour Party which had been growing in strength since the 1920's. Its former leader W.T. Crosgrave attempted to reconstruct the right-wing coalition by founding the National Party in 1934 and has remained a contemporary major party since then.
