USS Chief (MCM-14) is an Avenger-class mine countermeasures ship of the United States Navy. She was named for Chief Petty Officers. She was built by Peterson Shipbuilders, Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin. Avenger is homeported in San Diego, California and is part of the U.S. Pacific Fleet. The ship failed its INSURV inspection in June 2011. At that time, the ship was commanded by Lieutenant Commander Dave Taft.
