The Time of Enlightenment was a period centuries before the setting of the Edge Chronicles, during which Kobold the Wise united and civilised the Deepwoods under the Thousand Tribes. This age came to an end upon the arrival of the Mother Storm, bringing the Deepwoods into war and reverting the region into the primitive band of disconnected villages and settlements that existed before. Wide-scale civillisation would only return to Edge upon the Great Migrations, when various tribes left the Deepwoods to found the cities of Sanctaphrax and Undertown, thus beginning the First Age of Flight.
