Sometime before Sokka and Zuko's arrival, Chit Sang's girlfriend was found guilty of a crime and subsequently sent to the most secure prison in the Fire Nation, the Boiling Rock. In 100 AG, her boyfriend, Chit Sang, involved her in an escape attempt concocted by Sokka. However, during the execution of the plan, Chit Sang became impatient and started to row the cooler in which they were riding, using a piece of the vessel. He burned his hand by accidentally touching the scalding water of the boiling lake, causing him to scream in pain. This attracted the guards' attention, leading to their recapture.
