Bouldering a form of rock climbing that is available at Philmont. According to BSA regulations, no boulderer may climb higher than their shoulders. Whereas rock climbing is generally an upward climb, in bouldering the participant moves to their left or right. Several official bouldering areas are available at Philmont, such as at Cimarroncito, though many other unofficial and discouraged areas exist. It is ill-advised to boulder on these areas, especially if you do not have the proper equipment or supervision. As in all BSA climbing activities, participants should wear helmets and use a spotter at all times.
